For the past 24 days, Dayton has been covered in at least one inch of snow, the longest snow-covered streak since 1985, the National Weather Service in Wilmington reported.

The National Weather Service in Wilmington reported at least one inch of snow at the Dayton International Airport since Jan. 31, the longest streak at the site in 36 years, nearly to the day. The previous streak ended on Feb. 22, 1985.

The longest record for snow on the ground took place in 1978 after the Great Blizzard, which resulted in at least an inch of snow on the ground for a whopping 66 days, the NWS said.

Since January, the Miami Valley has seen several inches of snowfall and multiple snowstorms, some of which left area residents without power. Snow is beginning to melt as temperatures warm up, but storms over the past few weeks have resulted in nearly six inches of snow at the Dayton International Airport.
