Coroner IDs teen killed in Dayton shooting that injured 2 others

A 17-year-old died after a shooting in Dayton on Sunday that injured two others.

Trammel Johnson, of Dayton, was identified as the teen by Montgomery County Coroner Kent Harshbarger. His cause and manner of death have not been determined at this time.

Details on the condition of the two who were injured were not available Monday.

Police were called to the first block of East Hudson Avenue around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Lt. Jason Hall said.

“Upon arrival, they discovered that three individuals had been struck by gunfire, one of them had unfortunately succumbed to his wounds,” Hall said.

Officers began investigating the scene, Hall said, and learned that the shooting stemmed from an altercation.

“It is very early, but initial indications are that this tragic incident was a result of an altercation that unfortunately escalated into gunfire,” Hall said. “Right now, detectives are doing follow up, interviewing folks. We did bring several people down to the station building that night to interview.”

Hall said that the three people who were shot are acquaintances. Police are still investigating why the people were together.

Hall said that police are seeking help from the public, and are asking anyone with information to contact the Dayton Police Department at 513-333-COPS or by contacting CrimeStoppers at 937-222-STOP.

The Sunday night shooting was the latest in a string of violent crimes Dayton police are investigating.

“It is a challenge to us, no different than other occupations...” Hall said. “We have very dedicated people who are working as hard as they possibly can to investigate these crimes.”
