2022 Amazon Prime Day Predictions

What has come to be an annual retail holiday is upon us once again: Amazon Prime Day.

Over the years, Amazon Prime Day has stretched into two days, and this year, the dates are Tuesday, July 12 and Wednesday, July 13.

Money expert Clark Howard is looking forward to Prime Day as is Charis Brown, the managing editor of ClarkDeals.com. Here are some of their thoughts and predictions on the upcoming event, including the answer to a really good question.

Can You Really Find Deals on Amazon Prime Day?

Critics have said that Amazon’s Prime Day deals haven’t been much of a deal at all, but is that really the case?

"Some people have been critical of Amazon, like 'Oh, it really wasn't really low prices,' but we've seen Amazon get better and better," Charis says, referring to the retailer's penchant to offer bargains during the sales event.

In fact, Charis says Amazon is already baiting subscribers with deals to get them “primed” for Prime Day.

"They're starting to send out little sprinkles of deals here and there specifically for Prime members," she says. "If you're not a Prime member, of course, you can sign up for the free trial if you just want to check it out."

Will Amazon’s Competitors Have Sales As Well?

Charis says Amazon’s rival retailers will likely drop some prices next week.

"I think that there will be a lot of competition. Walmart will probably have a sale even though they already had their Walmart+ sale earlier in June," she says. "I think Best Buy will have a sale. Target has already announced it will have a sale."

"We really like to look at those competitors, because it tends to drive the price down for things that people are really interested in," Charis says. "So we're looking out for all of those retailers."

What Can You Expect To See on Sale for Prime Day?

Shoppers can expect items like the Amazon Fire Stick to be on deep discount. Don’t be surprised to see the Amazon Echo and Kindle on sale as well.

“Those Amazon devices are going to be low,” Charis says. “They’ll probably be the lowest prices that Amazon will offer.”

According to an Amazon news release, the deals, which started in late June, include "55% off select Amazon devices, up to 50% off Fire TV, and more deals from top brands like De'Longhi, Dove, and SodaStream."

"We're kind of hoping that also there might be some deals on household essentials this year," Charis adds.

Clark says electronics, especially laptops, have been on sale lately, and it’s likely you’ll see good prices on them into the back-to-school period. “I can’t remember when electronics were as cheap as they are right now,” he says.

Will Amazon Be Able To Stand Out From the Crowd?

“I’m really hoping that Amazon will be taking note and seeing people’s shopping trends and really try to send out some doorbuster-kind of deals because I think they really need to get people’s attention,” Charis says.

The retailer seems to be doing what it can to sweeten the deal(s) for Prime subscribers ahead of Prime Day.

Through July 8, eligible Prime members who back up their pictures onto the free Amazon Photos app will get a $20 credit to their accounts. Those members can then use the money toward any Prime Day purchase over $40.
