5 Things to Know About Amazon Prime Day 2020

One of the biggest retail holidays now has a date for this year: Amazon Prime Day 2020 is actually two days, October 13 and 14, the company announced in a news release.

As you may know, Amazon Prime Day is a sales event for members only. If you don't have Amazon Prime, you can still sign up for a 30-day trial to take advantage of the deals. After that, it's $119 a year as of this writing.

Amazon Prime Day: What You Need to Know

Money expert Clark Howard is excited about Prime Day: "I'm expecting Prime Day to offer some really good bargains — better than Amazon has offered in the past."

Just as Clark predicted, retailers are looking to stretch the holiday shopping season by starting it earlier than ever this year. Amazon's big retail days during the second weekend of October are a "Prime" example of that.

"Most people don't like to think about Christmas shopping until after Halloween. This year, that's going to cost you," Clark said recently on his podcast. "It's going to eat into your wallet. In fact, I want you to figure out who's been naughty or nice now."

Clark says the middle of October is going to be this year’s key money-saving moment for holiday shopping.

Here are five things to know about Amazon Prime Day 2020:

2. How Big Is Amazon Prime Day 2020?

Amazon says Prime Day is reaching more countries than ever. Prime members in two new countries — Brazil and Turkey — will be able to participate this year, the company says.

In addition to the United States, other countries with Prime Day deals are Austria, Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, U.A.E. and the U.K.

4. What Promotions Will Be Offered for Prime Day?

Because of the unprecedented effect that COVID-19 has had on businesses, Amazon says it’s rolling out several initiatives to promote smaller businesses and the products they sell.

Here are some ways you can shop and save money:

  • $10 Credit: If you spend $10 with select small businesses on Amazon between now and October 12, the company will give you a $10 credit to use on Prime Day.
  • Early Deals: In the runup to Prime Day, Amazon is offering sales on an assortment of electronics and clothing from its fashion brand. Make sure you check amazon.com/primeday for early deals.

5. How to Save Money on Amazon Prime Day

There’s no doubt that Amazon is going to have some great sales and discounts for you to choose from. But one of the great things about Prime Day is that other retailers will drop their prices, too.

ClarkDeals.com Managing Editor Charis Brown says, "Be sure to check out the competitors such as Walmart, eBay, or Best Buy because it's likely they may have better bargains. Last year, I bought a 3.5-qt air fryer for $35 at Walmart. We use it almost every other day!"
