Air Force Materiel Command kicks off 2019 Mentoring Campaign

This year marks the second year of the AFMC Mentoring Campaign, coinciding with January’s nationwide mentor month effort. National Mentor Month focuses on creating and developing long-term mentorship bonds between millions of hard-working Americans. Ask any CEO, General Officer or civic leader about their career, and every one of them will mention a mentor who was pivotal to their personal and professional development.

AFMC is a command built on mentoring; when I reflect on my career, I am constantly reminded of the individuals who gave not only their time, but their commitment and dedication to making me a better Airmen, husband and father.

To kick-start AFMC’s mentor month campaign, I recently participated in a short video where I discuss the impact of mentors and the value they bring to all aspects of our lives. You can watch that video at https://go.usa.gov/xEb4V. Also check out the mentor resources on the AFMC website feature page at https://www.afmc.af.mil/About-Us/Featured-Topics/AFMC-Mentoring/.

If you already have a mentor, continue to build that bond. If you are searching for a mentor, this is the perfect opportunity to reach out to a person whom you respect and want to someday emulate. Remember: Mentorship is a two-way street. It takes time, effort and most of all, a willingness to open yourself up to new experiences. The effort you make today could be decision that elevates your career to the next level!
