Montgomery County Sheriff’s Capt. Jeff Papanek said the driver, whose name was not being released pending an investigation of the accident, pulled Endres from the vehicle, but emergency medical personnel from the Washington Twp. Fire Department pronounced him dead at the scene.
The driver was transported to Miami Valley Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Papanek said.
Endres, who played on the offensive line for two Alter High School state championship football teams and won a business student award there, was majoring in accounting at OSU.
His father, Michael Endres, said Jonathan was planning to transfer to Wright State University and move back home.
“He was a big boy with a big heart and a big smile,” said his father, who added that the men were on their way home when the wreck took place.
Papanek said that based on the condition of the vehicle, a 2010 BMW, and where it hit the tree, “it’s likely the car was traveling at least twice the 25 mph speed limit.” Alcohol was also being investigated as a factor.
“The car was split almost in half by the tree and the gas tank ruptured. There were no witnesses to the accident,” he said. “The road was dry. It was dark. That’s a residential neighborhood.”
The Washington Twp. office of the Sheriff’s Office received the call about the accident at 6:06 a.m.
The Montgomery County Coroner’s office reported that the cause of death was still under investigation.
Endres said his wife and Jonathan’s mother, Shirley, 53, died unexpectedly Nov. 15, 2010. “Jonathan took that really hard and was just starting to get his life back together.” Mrs. Endres was a president of the Warren County Realtors Association.
Jonathan is also survived by a sister, Pauline, a chemistry major at WSU who plans to attend medical school.
“I will always remember him as such a happy kid. He had lots and lots of friends,” his father said.
He expected that arrangements will be handled by Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Road, Kettering.
