Animals die, cabinet shop destroyed in Shelby barn fire

SHELBY COUNTY, Ohio -- Four fire departments were called to a massive barn fire Friday night on Sidney-Freyburg Road near Anna.

Botkins Fire Chief Pat Fullenkamp says one of the big challenges was realizing that the barn belonged to one of his colleagues.  It housed the family cabinetry business and 14 farm animals.  The goats died in the fire.

Firefighters were unable to get water from a nearby hydrant because underground pipes were frozen.  They tapped water from a next door pond.

The barn owners heard about the fire on a police scanner while they were away for dinner.

The state fire marshal is trying to determine a cause. The barn was destroyed.
