Belle Haven School Now On Solid Foundation

Dayton Public School officials said their school is now on a solid foundation - literally.

Construction crews poured the concrete foundation Thursday for Belle Haven Elementary School as the new schools begin to sprout up around the district.

Supt. Percy Mack said this is what the district's parents want to see and what the taxpayers deserve. "We are showing the community, students and parents, all involved that the process is moving along," he said.

Mack said pouring the concrete this morning shows the district is on a good foundation with the new school.

The construction crews worked to smooth out the concrete into smooth footings. Mack said the progress does put some pressure on the district to keep the momentum going after the school is built.

Mack said, "There is pressure to do better in the classroom. We've done that all of the last three years."

Mack also said Dayton's teachers and student can meet the challenge, not only with new facilities, but with renovated ones, such as Kiser School, that will help form new attitudes of achievement.

Belle Haven is the district's third new school under construction for pre-kindergarten through 8th-grade students.

The new Cleveland School will begin construction next month and several others are planned in the next year.
