Branch sparks electrical fire at N. Smithville home

UPDATE @ 2:35 p.m.

A homeowner who was doing renovations on a vacant home in the 200 block of North Smithville Road noticed smoke pouring from the home and called 9-1-1.

The owner just happened to be driving by the location at that time, according to District Fire Chief James Rose.

A branch had fallen onto some electrical wires in the backyard and that sparked a fire in the rear of the home, Rose said.

No one was injured, but the fire caused an estimated $15,000 in damages.

Rose said Dayton Power and Light was called to the location, but before they arrived the house was still energized and firefighters had to take precautions because of the threat of electrocution.

No one lived at the home while it was being rehabilitated.
