Brookville community comes together during tornado cleanup

Many Brookville residents have already begun the rebuild process just two weeks after an EF-4 tornado tore through parts of the city on Memorial Day.

Despite losing part of her home in the storm, Pam Bonfig is one of those residents. Help from the Brookville community is one of the reasons rebuilding has begun so quickly.

“Everybody’s been wonderful,” Bonfig said. “People are walking around asking if we need anything.”

Many homes are in Brookville are unlivable. While some are moving elsewhere, many have opted to rebuild.

“We got through this, we’re not gonna leave,” Bonfig said.

The cleanup process continues all around Brookville. Volunteers are spending time to clean up many areas including Terrace Park and Brookville High School’s grounds.

To help, you can drop off items at the Ridge Church Barn Monday for a garage sale. The sale will take place next Tuesday and Wednesday with all proceeds helping those impacted by the tornadoes.
