Man involved in fatal motorcycle crash in Springfield Twp. identified

UPDATE @ 8:27 p.m.: 

The driver of the motorcycle that was involved in the crash on Rebert Pike has been identified as Thomas E. Smith, 58, of Springfield.

Ohio State Highway Patrol received a report that a 2003 Suzuki Burgman 650, driven by Smith was involved in an injury crash.

He was driving westbound on Rebert Pike when his motorcycle went to the left of center then off the road and struck a guardrail.

Smith was the only passenger on the motorcycle.

OPS received help from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and were able to determine that neither speed nor impairment were factors in the crash.

Smith was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The crash remains under investigation.

UPDATE @ 7:07 p.m.:

A man driving a motorcycle has died after crashing in Springfield Twp. on Rebert Pike near Interstate 70.

Investigators are looking at speed as a factor in the crash, according to the Springfield post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

The coroner is on scene where a motorcycle crashed on Rebert Pike in Springfield Twp.

Our crew on scene is working to learn more.

INITIAL REPORT:

CareFlight was requested to the scene of a motorcycle crash in the 2,000 block of Rebert Pike.

The emergency helicopter has since left the scene.

We have a crew there and we are working to learn how many injuries have been reported and what may have caused the crash.
