UPDATE @ 2:10 p.m. April 25
An arrest warrant has been issued for a 56-year-old woman who has been indicted on a charge of murder stemming from a fatal fire in January.
A Montgomery County grand jury has indicted Michelle Schubert on one charge of murder and two counts of aggravated arson.
On Jan. 11, Dayton firefighters responded to a fire at an apartment in the 2300 block of Rugby Road. After knocking down flames, firefighters found the body of 58-year-old Edwana Hodge.
The Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office identifies Schubert as the roommate to Edwana Hodge. Schubert was also injured in the fire.
Police said at the time that witnesses reported seeing people arguing at the apartment all day prior to the fire.
We’re working to gather more details about the investigation.
EARLIER
Dayton firefighters had to burst through a second-floor apartment door blocked by a wheelchair and a bedroom door blocked by a body during a Wednesday fire call at 2370 Rugby Road.
Dayton police homicide detectives are investigating because of witnesses reporting a day-long argument between roommates and a 911 caller who saw a woman in the burning apartment not trying to get out.
Edwana Hodge, 58, died of her injuries, but the Montgomery County Coroner's Office said the autopsy results are pending until toxicology results return in 6-8 weeks. Dayton police said the other woman, also in her 50s, is in serious condition at Miami Valley Hospital.
"It looks like she's going to survive her injuries," Dayton police Lt. Andrew Booher said Wednesday. "We're hoping to interview her at some point and try to find out exactly what happened."
