Dangerous storms moving across country toward Ohio

Severe storms already leaving a wake of damage across the southern U.S. are expected to move into the Miami Valley region Wednesday evening.

A tornado watch, which later escalated to a tornado warning, was issued for the Atlanta, Ga. metro area on Wednesday.

The Associated Press reported southwest Missouri authorities believe a tornado is responsible for severe damage to several buildings, including a fire station and elementary school.

Goodman, Mo., authorities said several homes and businesses were damaged, but no deaths or serious injuries had been reported, according to the AP. Minor damage was also reported at the airport in Neosho, Missouri.

This is the second damaging storm to smack this part of Missouri in less than a month. Two tornadoes hit the same area in March.

In March, the National Weather Service reported at least two tornadoes touched down in Missouri as a line of severe storms with heavy rain and large hail moved across the state, damaging homes in communities north and east of the Kansas City metro area.

On Wednesday, the Weather Channel reported southeast Alabama residents were preparing for severe weather which was expected to last all day.

Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley issued a state of emergency and multiple Alabama schools announced Wednesday closures, according to the Associated Press.
