A Dayton man running test laps for the Madison Regatta hydroplane races on the Ohio River in Indiana died Saturday, according to the Associated Press.

Rick Beatty was driving his vintage H-202 Heavy Duty when he hit a wake and was ejected from the open cockpit of the boat, Jefferson County Coroner Rodney Nay reportedly told the Associated Press.

Beatty was pulled from the water by safety and rescue personnel and medics tried to resuscitate him while en route to the hospital.
He was pronounced dead King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison, according to the Associated Press.
