Donate a book; free RTA ride

ajc.com

Receive a free ride from RTA for donating a book to the annual Read on RTA program.

All riders who donate a book at participating RTA transit centers will receive a free One Day Pass for fixed-route services, with a limit of one per person, in exchange for their contribution on Friday, May 25. Books donated will be used to help stock shelves at all transit centers for the Read on RTA summer reading program.

Read on RTA aims to battle the "summer slide" - the academic backslide children can experience while they're not actively learning in the classroom during summer months. Children of all age levels, and adults, are encouraged to take a book and enjoy.

Donations will be accepted at tables set up between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Wright Stop Plaza concourse located at 4 South Main Street in downtown Dayton, and at the Northwest Transit Center located at 2075 Shiloh Springs Road in Trotwood.

The RTA partners with literacy and learning groups across the Dayton region, including Dayton Metro Libraries, Half Priced Books in Beavercreek, Project Read through Sinclair Community College, and more to collect book donations each summer.

Beginning on Monday, June 4, Read on RTA will begin distributing books across all five transit centers:

- Wright Stop Plaze located at 4 South Main Street in Dayton

- Northwest Transit Center located at 2075 Shiloh Springs Road in Trotwood

- Eastown Transit Center located at 1218 Falke Drive in Dayton

- Westown Transit Center located at 122 Elmhurst Drive in Dayton

- South Transit Center located at 2730 Lyons Drive in Miami Township
