NFL’s gift to Dayton is same turf field used by Seahawks, Falcons

UPDATE @ 8:15 p.m.:

Dayton commissioners tonight voted to accept the estimated $444,000 donation from the NFL of a regulation professional football field at Triangle Park.

INITIAL REPORT (April 9):

The field the National Football League will construct in Dayton to honor the first ever NFL game will have the same turf as that used by the Seattle Seahawks and the Atlanta Falcons.

A company called FieldTurf has partnered with the NFL to install a new "Revolution 360" turf field at Triangle Park, which hosted the first NFL game on Oct. 3, 1920, between the Dayton Triangles and the Columbus Panhandles.

The new field, near where the first game was played, will be about 85,000 square feet, will have football markings and will be fenced in.

FieldTurf is donating about $232,500 worth of turf product, while the NFL is pitching in about $150,000, according to city of Dayton documents. Dayton commissioners this week will vote whether to accept the estimated $444,000 donation of a regulation professional football field.

CenturyLink Field, home to the Seattle Seahawks and Sounders FC (Major League Soccer), has Revolution 360 turf.

“CenturyLink Field is one of four NFL stadiums to utilize FieldTurf, along with Detroit’s Ford Field, Indianapolis’ Lucas Oil Stadium and New England’s Gillette Stadium,” according to a press release from First & Goal Inc., which operates CenturyLink Field.

The Atlanta Falcons have Revolution 360 turf at its Mercedes-Benz Stadium and indoor practice field in another city in Georgia. The Falcons said it is the "absolute top-of-the-line product."
