A Wayne County Jail correctional officer was arrested Thursday after entering the jail carrying contraband for an inmate.
The officer was identified by Wayne County Sheriff’s Office as Timothy Knight of Greenville. Jail staff found a package in the mail that contained a Suboxone strip coming in for an inmate, according to a media release.
Wayne County Sheriff Jeff Cappa said this is the first trafficking instance involving a correctional officer since he has been in office. Knight is charged with a Level 6 felony as a result of Official Misconduct.
The Wayne County Drug Task Force and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office worked together in the investigation that led to Knight’s arrest.
