BREAKING: Two killed in Springfield house fire

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- Two women in Springfield are dead after a fire at their home in the 2900 block of Caldwell Avenue just off of Middle Urbana Road.
Reports from the scene indicate that the victims are both adult women believed to be members of the same family.
In addition, another family member arrived home to discover the victims about 4:00 this morning.
Springfield fire fighters say that it appears the blaze started in an area of the home away from the bedroom where the two women were sleeping.
They are investigating the possibility that the house's furnace may have sparked the inferno.  Firefighters say the home filled with smoke and carbon monoxide.
Investigators say that the victims may have awakened and tried to escape the burning house.  However, they say the effects of carbon monoxide poisoning may have made any such attempt to leave the house a futile one because the acts as an intoxicant and causes people to act irrationally.

Investigators say that they still have a tremendous amount of information to sort through to determine an official cause of the fire and an official cause of death.
