Brixx Ice Co. makeover to wrap up by Dragons’ opening day

Improvements to the 149-year-old building that houses Brixx Ice Co. restaurant and bar should be complete by next week, according to Brixx owner Chris Bhai.

The pub at 500 E. First St. is undergoing a $100,000 makeover that presents a newly re-faced building front. The bar’s signature brick wall has been painted pewter gray, and interior improvements include a refinished upstairs private dining room and replacement of a some of the bar’s oldest televisions, Bhai said.

“We were falling behind the times,” Bhai said. “And this building has been here since 1867.”

Brixx is also expanding its number of tap handles from 10 to 15, with most of the new taps devoted to locally produced craft beers. Plans call for adding an additional five taps next year, bringing the total for the bar to 20, not counting four taps on the bar’s patio, Bhai said.

The bar is across the street from the Dayton Dragons’ Fifth Third Field. The team’s home opener is scheduled for April 9.
