Butler County National Night Out events start today

Monroe police will host its annual National Night Out tonight, Aug. 2.

Started by the National Association of Town Watch, the National Night Out is meant to enhance the relationship between police departments and their neighborhoods.

According to the National Night Out website, 122 locations in Ohio are registered to participate this year.

Officer Josh King said Monroe’s event will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. at Monroe High School, 220 Yankee Road. Skydivers from Team Fastrax will be jumping in with the American flag at 5 p.m.

The event will feature music from deejay Steve Black as well as several raffles ranging from gift cards to various businesses and restaurants to car washes and gift baskets. The event also features miniature horses.

Free food will be provided by Skyline Chili, and @Hawaiian Five-OH will be on hand passing out free shaved ice.

The Monroe Safety Town will be set up and police will have an OVI simulation golf cart course set up.
