No one was injured in the fire, which prompted eight to 10 nearby fire departments to be called in for mutual aid. Water had to be shuttled in as well, he said.
“We were faced with some high winds tonight. High winds and a fully involved barn fire is hard to get under control,” Chief Baker said.
Family and friends managed to get two tractors and some equipment out of the barn. The chief said he had to call the Darke County Sheriff’s Office for help with traffic control because of all the fire equipment and the number of neighbors and friends who came to help the family.
We’re told the affected family is said to be German Baptist and next spring, members of the church will come out and help put up a new barn.

A fire that raged for more than an hour destroyed a family’s pole barn containing farm machinery.
Family members were able to salvage some equipment, family friends at the scene said.
There were no injures when the fire broke out around 5:15 p.m. at the barn in the 9400 block of Hogpath Road. The cause of the fire is unknown.

A fourth alarm was called for an engulfed pole barn fire, for tankers only.
Also, there were reports fire was spreading to a nearby field.
An Eyewitness 7 viewer contributed a photo, which showed heavy black smoke billowing high above flames.
FIRST REPORT
A pole barn is fully engulfed this evening, with firefighters called from multiple jurisdictions.
The fire was reported around 5:15 p.m. in the 9400 block of Hogpath Road southeast of Greenville in Darke County. Fire companies were called from the area, including Bradford, Arcanum, Pitsburg, Laura, Ludlow and Pleasant Hill.
There were no injuries reported, and farm machinery was reported to be inside the barn.
