A total of 715 cars traveled through the checkpoints in Piqua during the five hours the sobriety checkpoints were staffed.
The Piqua locations were among a number of checkpoints in the Miami Valley, the State of Ohio and nation-wide, according to Piqua Patrol Post Commaner Lt. William Peck. Friday was the kick-off, said Peck, of a new nation-wide campaign that states if you drive impaired, you will be caught and arrested. The campaign theme is: Over the Limit, Under Arrest, a crackdown on impaired driving.
In Piqua at least three motorists were charged with drunk driving, while another person was nabbed for possession of marijuana at the checkpoint on Ash St..
The checkpoints were operated from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. by the State Highway Patrol, Piqua Police, and the Miami County Sheriff's Department.
