The Clark County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents against a phone scam that appears to come from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. The scammer is using a spoofing app to mimic the office’s phone number to ask for money and gift cards, a report said.

The scam calls have been reported in eight states over the past week. The scammers, the release said, attempt to convince victims to pay money, send money or gift cards to the Sheriff’s Office. Callers are using numerous excuses to ask for money, the release said.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office said they will never call on the phone and ask for money or gift cards for any reason. The release also warns against giving personal information to unknown callers.
