Clay pot stops fleeing suspect in Hamilton chase

Ohio State troopers arrested a man early Saturday morning after a pursuit through a neighborhood behind Walgreens off Ohio 4.

Sgt. Tom Bloomberg said the troopers tried to stop the man on Route 4 at Ohio 129 at around 1:30 a.m. before he took off into a neighborhood, crashed and took off on foot.

“The trooper said he went around this one block five times,” Bloomberg said. “Finally he hit this big clay pot with a plant in it, and he hits this thing, busts it into a million pieces but a piece of it got wedged under his car. He keeps going down the road a little way and that thing finally got wedged enough that his car wouldn’t move any further, and that’s when he got out and took off on foot.”

The chase lasted for about five or 10 minutes, and the trooper caught him near the railroad trestle. He was charged with OVI, fleeing and alluding. More charges are possible.

Bloomberg said the trooper took the suspect to Fort Hamilton Hospital briefly to get some minor injuries looked at and then booked him into the Butler County Jail.
