Company makes large pencil donation to impact local kids

A national hardware chain is making a significant donation that impacts local children with a “major pencil donation” to the Kids in Need Foundation.

Dixon Ticonderoga Company, an office and art supplies maker, is donating 2.8 million pencils, valued over $460,000 to Kids In Need Foundation Resource Centers across the nation on behalf of Lowe’s.

Locally, Crayons to Classrooms at 1750 Woodman Dr. in Dayton was awarded a donation.

Other locations include: Indianapolis, Ind., Charlotte N.C and Tampa, Fla. The centers will be open to eligible program member teachers in the area for a shopping day. The donation is said to provide educators in the community with the resources they need to help equip students with school supplies.

“We know that when students are prepared with the tools they need to learn, they excel both in and out of the classroom,” said Dave Smith, executive director, Kids In Need Foundation, in a press release.

“Dixon Ticonderoga and Lowe’s understand that pencils are an integral part of classroom learning. School supplies are necessary to equip students nationwide for success. We know that when kids have the tools they need, they will have a better classroom experience and their potential for success increases,” said Dixon Ticonderog Chief Executive Officer Tim Gomez in a release.
