The tower was damaged during a storm in June, 2012. The storm ripped part of the clock tower off and shifted the tower nearly a foot.
Since then, Wickersham said the county commissioners have been trying to replace the tower with something that would last not 10 years, but rather 150 years.
“The image of that tower is what people know of Logan County and Bellefontaine, Ohio. And we also want to put it back and preserve our history,” Wickersham said.
Currently, construction workers are building the tower in Marion and will put all the pieces together in Bellefontaine later this year, hopefully by November, Wickersham said.
Insurance will cover most of the cost to fix the tower.
While no one is using the building, the county is adding other upgrades, Wickersham said. The county is working to replace the roof of the building as well as update the handicap accessibility of the building, he said.
Wickersham said those improvements would be done sometime next year.
