Local communities are working to make sure key services are still happening today, and in the event of further quarantines or restrictions.

News Center 7’s James Rider was in West Milton Friday, where community leadership met to continue work on plans Friday. He spoke with West Milton Mayor Anthony Miller. Miller says the leadership met more than a week ago to work on ways to help the older population, and those with medical conditions, in case a self-quarantine was necessary. So much has changed in the past week, they are now also working on what’s next.

They’ve set up a phone number and facebook account for residents to contact if they need help. But it’s also for people who are able and willing to help others.

"We would greatly appreciate the help,” says Miller, “no matter if it's just being able to go pick up groceries or some other kind of resource that somebody believes they can provide. Please let us know."

The mayor says that even if a lockdown is ordered, the volunteers would be able to continue helping others; including the school meal deliveries. "We are considering them essential personnel in the village of West Milton, and Union Township and we are providing them credentials so they'd be able to provide that service," says Miller.

They are working to make sure items are left on porches or doorways to reduce person-to-person exposure.

Officers with the West Milton Police Department are also preparing to drive essentials to people in need, and the Miami County Sheriff’s Office is also offering to make deliveries for programs like Meals on Wheels, if needed.
