Country Club of the North, 1 Club North Drive, has a little more than 300 members. The club is expected to add 12 new jobs this year in the service industry, including managers, servers, bartenders and dishwashers. The club has partnered with the Greene County Career Center and several area universities for training, internship and placement for the new jobs.
“The whole project for us was to increase capacity for the banquet area and make the club more member-friendly,” said Pam Vitale, the club’s director of sales and marketing. “We’ve improved all member areas and built additional capacity for events.”
Included in the scope of the project are upgrading member dining areas, lounges, and pro shop, meeting and banquet facilities.
The club is expected to open by April 10, and the banquet area will be open the first part of May, Vitale said. Total capacity will now be between 250 and 350 depending on the event.
The private club — built in 1993 — is planning a grand opening in June to celebrate its 20th anniversary and the clubhouse renovations. Construction started in late 2011, and members have had access to only portions of the club, such as the fitness center and golf course.
“The purpose of this is threefold,” general manager Paul Malonson said. “We wanted to make sure we provide a private club experience for our members. We wanted to do a thorough updating of the décor and logistics of the club. And the final part is increase capacity.”
Steve Klick, the director of operations for the city-owned Beavercreek Golf Club, said it won’t affect the course’s business because it is a public facility.
“There’s such a huge difference between public and private,” Klick said. “It’s a wonderful asset to have a public and private course in the same city. Not many people can boast that, and we’re fortunate to have both.”
