Cousin of NBA star Dwyane Wade shot to death in Chicago

A mother of four who is a cousin of Chicago Bulls player Dwyane Wade was shot and killed Friday afternoon as she was pushing a baby stroller on Chicago’s South Side, chicago.cbslocal.com is reporting.

Chicago Police Deputy Chief James Jones says the victim - identified by family as Nykea Aldridge - was an “innocent party to this senseless shooting.”

“She was just leaving Dulles School, walking down the street, and as she was walking down the street some type of altercation occurred that did not involve her.

Shots were fired during this altercation, and subsequently she was shot and taken to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries,” Jones told reporters Friday evening.

Authorities said the woman was hit in the head and arm by gunfire. She was transported to Stroger Hospital. Family members soon followed. They say Aldridge, a mother of four, was registering her children for classes at Dulles.
