Cow Has Rare Set Of Triplets

There was a special delivery for a cow in Clark County.

6-year-old Annabelle, gave birth to a rare set of triplets on Wednesday.

The baby calves, two boys and a girl, are doing well and starting to take their first steps.

The veterinarian said this is a very rare occurance.

The cow and triplet calves are owned by Rita Dornon of Springfield Township. Dornon said, "This is quite a surprise."

Dornon knew Annabelle was expecting but she had no idea that she was carrying triplets. "I looked out, saw one and then I saw two and that was a surprise."

Then Dornon found another calf in the field, three in all.

When a cow gives birth, it normally has only enough milk for one or two calves at the most.

So Rita Dornon has a lot more work to do because she is bottle-feeding all three babies, three times a day. "

She said her veterinarian will be visiting the triplets soon. She called him the minute the calves were born. "He said this was very rare and to make sure I give them equal amounts of milk until she accepts them, said Dornon.

Annabelle is showing her love by licking and nudging the triplets.

If all goes well, all three will be walking soon and nursing on their own.
