Crack, fake drugs recovered in arrest

A man was arrested after for carrying crack and possible counterfeit drugs in the Oregon District Sunday morning.

A patrol officer began following Desmon S. McQuay, 21, after he suddenly left a group of people he was speaking with on East Fifth Street at about 4:45 a.m. McQuay hopped on a bicycle and was riding off when he was stopped by the officer.

Officers who searched McQuay found a pocket knife and an asthma inhaler that hid a plastic bag containing what officers suspected to be crack. A chemical test showed that at least one of the five rocks in the bad was crack, but a test of another rock was negative. The other rocks were labeled as suspected crack-cocaine, according to the police report.

While McQuay was sitting in a police cruiser, a man came by and claimed the bike that McQuay had stolen when police began following him.

Officers also found a small amount of marijuana on McQuay when he was booked into the Montgomery County Jail. He faces charges of felony drug possession and offenses involving counterfeit controlled substances.
