Area dog breeders on ‘Horrible Hundred’ list

WAYNE CO., Ind. — Two pet kennels in Wayne Co., Ind. are on the Humane Society's "Horrible Hundred" list of worst puppy breeders.

The Morgan Creek Kennel in Williamsburg was noted for having dogs with swellings and ulcerations. Pine Hill Kennel in Hagerstown is on the list for having “bloody puppies and wormy food,” the report states.

The breeders are targeted as puppy mills by the Humane Society because the mother dogs often spend their entire lives in poor conditions and cramped spaces. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, puppies at Pine Hill were seen with tails cut off and glued together at the base with expired surgical adhesive.

The dogs at Morgan Creek had swelling and ulcers on their feet that indicated a large amount of time spent standing on wire flooring.

The puppy mills have been cited and fined by the U.S.D.A. The complete "Horrible Hundred" list is online.
