UPDATE @ 11:31 p.m. (Sept. 26): Mother Amber Pasztor, 29 years old, is charged with two counts of murder, ABC57 News in South Bend, Ind., is reporting.

FIRST REPORT (Sept. 26)

A 6-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl found dead Monday night in the back seat of a car in Elkhart, Ind., are believed to be the subjects of an Amber Alert issued in Allen County, Ind., on Monday, according to several media reports in northern Indiana.

WANE.com in Fort Wayne and other Hoosier media report that about 5:25 p.m., Elkhart police said an officer was stopped outside the police department by Amber Pasztor, the biological mother of Liliana Hernandez and Rene Pasztor. She said there were two children dead in the back seat.

The children were believed to have been taken Monday morning from a home in the 7000 block of U.S. 33 in Allen County.

According to the sheriff’s department, Amber Pasztor took the children just after 6 a.m. Their grandfather has legal custody and he told NewsChannel 15 he was afraid for their safety.

Amber was believed to be with Frank Macomber, 65, and the two were previously seen together with the children in a 1999 Mercury Mystique earlier in the day in Auburn, Ind. It’s not clear what the relationship is between Amber Pasztor and Macomber.

While Pasztor has been found with her children, Macomber has not been found at this time.

NewsChannel 15 spoke with Michelle Troye, Macomber’s daughter, who claims Macomber is Pasztor’s neighbor and that she believes her father is in danger.

Police went to Macomber’s home Monday evening. It is unclear what they are looking for.
