2 charged in slaying of Zachary Soots of Indiana

A homicide investigation into the death of Zachary Soots of Indianapolis, found in southwest central Indiana in mid-April, has produced two arrests, the Indiana State Patrol said Friday night.

Edward Thompson, 34, of Indianapolis, is charged with murder and Melissa York, 26, of Fairland, Ind., is charged with felony assisting a criminal, the ISP said.

They were arrested Friday afternoon and remained in the Henry County Jail on Friday night. No details about what led to the apprehension of the two was made available.

About 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 13, a passer-by walking along Grant City Road, just south of Grant City in southwest Henry County, discovered the body of a man in the area of Montgomery Creek, according to the patrol.

That same week, an autopsy identified the body as that of Soots, 23.

The arrests are the result of an ongoing investigation by the Henry County Special Investigations Team. That team includes Henry County sheriff's investigators, New Castle police, the ISP Pendleton District and the Henry County Prosecutor's Office.

Investigators stress the investigation is ongoing and they are asking for the public's help.

Anyone with any information about Soots or his last known whereabouts is asked to call ISP Detective Scott Jarvis at 765-778-2121, sheriff's Sgt. Elmer New, or New Castle police Officer Scott Ullery at 765-529-4901. Tips can be kept anonymous.
