Victim of Highland Avenue shooting identified as Dayton man

The victim of the shooting on Highland afternoon earlier today has been identified by the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

Juan Moore, 25, of Dayton, was found on the ground by a Dayton officer and pronounced dead on the scene just as a shooting was reported in the area.

Moore was pronounced dead on the scene, but the cause of death was not immediately available said Dayton Police Sgt. Eric Brown

Crews were seen placing evidence markers at footprints around a duplex. Sgt. Brown said there was a lot of evidence on the scene that could be of use to detectives.

The incident was reported just before noon.

Joe Mercer, who has lived in the area for about a year, said he was watching TV when he saw the lights from an ambulance outside.

“I peeked out and lo and behold I just look out and there’s a body on the sidewalk,” he said.

He said the neighborhood is typically quiet, but that in the last month there’s been accidents, cars broken into and a person who was jumped.

Though Mercer said it's a "little nerve wracking," he still feels safe.
"Violence is very intermittent," he said. "It can happen anywhere."

Sgt. Brown said that homicide detectives spoke to residents in the area to find any information about the reported shooting.
