2 males, 19, arrested in Jackson Center standoff

UPDATE @ 11:15 p.m.: The two males arrested in the Jackson Center standoff are 19 and remained in jail on several felony charges.

Jonathan Forsythe is being detained on bail of $17,591 on charges of burglary and obstructing official business, according to Shelby County online jail records.

The second male, Daniel Kerns, is being detained on bail of $5,091 on a single count of receiving stolen property.

FIRST REPORT: Jackson Center High School was briefly on lockdown this afternoon when a burglary suspect barricaded himself inside a house.

Village police initially were called to a report of a burglary at 12:09 p.m. in the 300 block of South Main Street, said Chief Joseph Cotterman.

Among items stolen was a handgun, he said.

The investigation twice led police to a house next door, first to talk to a neighbor and second about 2:30 p.m. after police determined the neighbor was a suspect, Cotterman said.

"That suspect barricaded himself in the residence and would not come out," he said.

Jackson Center police and Shelby County sheriff's deputies responded, blocking South Main Street between West Street and Back 40 Drive. Village police and deputies surrounded the home and were able to arrest the suspect.

All property taken in the burglary was recovered, Cotterman said, and the street was reopened by 3:50 p.m.

Jonathan Forsythe is charged with burglary.

A second suspect, Daniel Kerns, was arrested at the residence prior to the standoff. He is charged with receiving stolen property, Cotterman said.

Both men were booked into the Shelby County Jail.
