Man found guilty of killing pregnant woman, unborn child in Dayton 2018 shooting

A jury found a 19-year-old Dayton man guilty of killing a pregnant woman and her unborn child in February 2018.

Brandon W. Leigh was convicted of murder, involuntary manslaughter, improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation and having weapons while under disability, according to a Montgomery County Common Pleas Court official.

Leigh’s trial started Monday with closing arguments taking place Thursday morning. The jury returned the guilty verdict Thursday evening.

His sentencing is scheduled for April 23.

On Feb. 16, 2018, Dayton police were called to the 100 block of Lorenz Avenue after a woman was shot.

Keyona Murray, 22, died at Miami Valley Hospital that night.

Murray was pregnant at the time and her unborn child died as a result of the shooting.

Leigh reportedly shot Murray in front of her 2-year-old child and 2-year-old nephew.

Leigh was 17 at the time of the shooting. He was charged as an adult in September 2018.
