Man ran from police with backpack full of goods

Dayton police recovered several electronic items that may be stolen after a man ran from officers early Wednesday morning and dropped the items in a yard.

David Skapik, 31, was arrested pending charges of obstruction, resisting arrest and possession of criminal tools.

At about 2 a.m. police saw two men walking on East Third Street, one carrying a backpack. As police got closer, the man with the backpack took off running through several backyard and dropped the bag, according to a police report.

That man, who was later identified as Skapik, jumped over one 6-foot fence, but an officer caught up with him before he could jump another. He was handcuffed and police found he had gloves, a flashlight and a screwdriver in his possession.

They recovered his backpack and found it contained a portable DVD player, headphones, CDs, an Xbox video game, 5 Blu-ray movies and some cigarettes.

Police are looking into whether those items could be stolen.
