Police: Man shot after pointing gun at Dayton officers

A man was shot by police Tuesday morning after he pointed a gun at officers and ignored multiple requests to drop the weapon, according to Dayton police.

No other injuries were reported during the incident.

A medic was called to the 1000 block of Chelsea Avenue in Dayton after police briefly issued a call for officer assistance.

Police responded to the area at 2:32 a.m. after on a report that the man fired the gun in his house and then went outside and fired shots into the air.

When officers arrived on the scene, the man still had the gun and lowered it, pointing it at officers, police said.

Police shot the man after he reportedly ignored multiple orders to drop the gun.

Multiple shell casings were on the ground at the scene, said a Dayton Daily News photographer.

The man was taken to an area hospital. His condition was not available at this time.

Three crime scene units are on the scene and are investigating.

It is not clear what prompted the man to start firing the gun.
