Miami University homecoming weekend includes OVI checkpoint

The Butler County OVI Task Force will be conducting an OVI checkpoint today, Aug. 30, starting at 10 p.m. and ending no later than 1 a.m. in Oxford.

The southbound lane of US 27, specifically 5055 College Corner Pike, will be checked, according to the Butler County OVI Task Force.

Miami University’s Homecoming Weekend events begin tonight with the annual Community Picnic in Uptown Park and continue through Sunday afternoon.

Miami University students started classes this past Monday.

Police and fire/EMS personnel were kept busy last weekend dealing with alcohol-related reports, most involving Miami University students back in town for the start of classes this past Monday, a review of police reports shows.

Some of the alcohol-related cases had to be taken to other hospitals when McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital could not take anymore, according to police reports.

Oxford’s fire and EMS crews responded to 53 calls over the weekend, 20 of them alcohol or drug related incidents, records show.
