2 pedestrians hit, 1 killed on Ohio 4 in Fairfield

38-year-old Fairfield woman died of her injuries

One of two pedestrians struck by a pickup truck Thursday night on Ohio 4 has succumbed to her injuries.

Police and medics were called just before 8:30 p.m. to an injury accident in the 5200 block of Dixie Highway, just south of Nilles Road.

A 43-year-old man and 38-year-old woman were both struck by a red 1978 Ford F-15 headed north as they attempted to cross the state highway, Fairfield police Sgt. Don Garrett said.

The woman, identified as Danielle Halcomb, 38, of Fairfield, was taken to Mercy Health - Fairfield Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The Butler County Cororner’s office ruled her death accidental, listing the cause of death as head trauma.

The other victim, a 43-year-old man, was flown by AirCare to University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.

“They were not in a crosswalk at the time of the incident,” Garrett said.

The identities of the driver and man who was hit are being held until the conclusion of the investigation, and there are no indications the driver was impaired, police said.

Jordan Kaiser of Fairfield was returning home from work when he saw the pickup truck ahead stop, and the driver get out and wave him around. As he pulled around, “I’d seen the two people laying in the road face down.”

Kaiser, 21, described the scene as “horrific.”
