Weber said an officer tried to catch up with a vehicle to pull it over after a traffic violation.
Dispatch records said that this began just after midnight.
The lieutenant said that the vehicle fled down First Street, but was going too fast to make the turn onto the alley and drove up and across the railroad tracks.
The vehicle came to a stop in a field on the other side and at least one person ran away.
Weber said that after a search with the assistance of Ohio State Highway Patrol, police were unable to find the driver. Officers also didn’t find anyone injured in the area.
Weber said that police did have some leads they could follow and a good idea of who the suspect was. He added police had tried to contact the suspect, but had so far been unable to do so.
Officials inspected the railroad tracks and said that they were all right, Weber said.
This crash remains under investigation.
