Spurned advance blamed in ambush

DAYTON — Corey Mitchell’s spurning of a woman’s romantic overtures led to his being slain in an ambush on May 29, police said.

Donna Michelle Dix, 42, was arrested by police and charged Monday with complicity to commit murder.

Police believe they know who shot Mitchell, 34, but county prosecutors want more evidence before issuing a warrant, said Dayton Lt. Mark Varvel of the central investigations unit.

Police believe Dix promised a person an intimate relationship with her if he killed Mitchell.

Mitchell and his 11-year-old daughter were getting out of his car near his house when a masked gunman, who witnesses said hid in bushes in a vacant lot across the street, opened fire. The child was shot in the knee.
