Suspect in I-70 semi stabbing being held on bond; victim remains in critical condition

A 47-year-old Miami, Fla., man accused of stabbing a semi driver on Interstate 70 in Indiana is continuing to be held at the Wayne County Jail on a $250,000 bond, said Sheriff Rand Retter.

Pavel Nery-Gonzalez was charged with aggravated battery, according to Wayne County court records.

He was initially arrested for attempted murder Friday morning.

The victim, whose identity has not been confirmed, is in critical condition at Miami Valley Hospital, Retter said.

“Our investigators are working to verify leads that they have obtained,” he added.

Deputies responded to reports of a disabled semi truck on I-70 around the 156 mile marker Thursday evening, according to a press release.

Once on the scene, deputies found two male passengers, with one having “apparent stab wounds.”

He was taken to Reid Health before being transported to Miami Valley Hospital.

The second man, Nery-Gonzalez, was taken into custody.
