Trial for ex-Springboro teacher accused of child sex crimes unlikely to end this week

Prosecutors called parents and children this morning in the trial of John Austin Hopkins, the former Springboro teacher accused of gross sexual imposition of 28 first-grade girls during his class.

The prosecutors called seven parents, including a teacher who knew Hopkins before he was accused of felony charges related to interactions with her daughter between December 2018 and March 2019.

“Sick to my stomach. Awful,” the teacher testified about her reaction to learning of the charges involving her daughter.

Hopkins’ lawyers continued to question the testimony compared to the videos upon which the charges are based. The videos are played during each parent’s time on the witness stand.

Judge Robert Peeler said 17 witnesses testified on Tuesday and predicted 20 would take the stand today.

Peeler warned the jury that the trial, scheduled to end Friday, was likely to continue into next week.
