The family was in the crosswalk from the south side of the street when the driver of a pickup attempting to make a left turn from Western onto North struck all three of them, according to a witness, Tonya Darst.
“I had just gotten out of the car and came around to the sidewalk. I saw them walking this way and then the truck just turned,” she said. “Hit all three of them and they kind of scattered.”
She said the girl, reportedly about 9 years old, ended up partially under the truck, but did not appear to get run over.
The victims were taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center.
Police at the scene called it a minor traffic crash, but declined to comment further. They were interviewing the driver of that truck, who remained at the scene.
