Woman says new opioid prescription law hurts those in pain

An Englewood woman said the crackdown on opioid prescription drug abuse is unfair to those suffering from chronic pain.

Treva Ward's husband has serious spinal problems and is in contant pain. This has led to three major back surgeries.

A new law cuts down how many doses of opioids a doctor can prescribe. But Ward said this means her husband can't get a prescription longer than 14 days.

"He is in so much pain. People that abuse it are hurting the other people that really need it. It's really said," Ward said.

A spokeswoman for Montgomery County Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health Services said the new law is aimed at helping fight the drug epidemic.
