82-year-old man stabbed to death in reported murder-suicide attempt in Dayton

An 82-year-old man was stabbed to death Tuesday in a reported attempted murder-suicide in Dayton.

Bobby L. Mims died from multiple stabs wounds, according to according to Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Kent Harshbarger.

Dayton police responded around 3 p.m. Tuesday to the intersection of Main and Locust streets, said Sgt. Mike Godsey, Dayton homicide unit supervisor.

“The caller in advised his mother had killed his father and was attempting to kill herself,” he said.

When police arrived, they found a man and woman inside a vehicle.

“The female was trying to ingest bleach, so the officers forced their way into the car to prevent the female from causing additional harm to herself,” Godsey said.

Dayton fire crews were called but the man was declared dead. The woman, who was not identified, was taken to the hospital, where she is now in stable condition, police said.

The homicide unit is investigating and will present the case to the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office for consideration of charges.
