Business Name: Norton Engineering LLC

Location: 5758 Webster St. in Harrison Twp.

Owner’s name: John Norton

Years in operation: Since 1976, 44 years

Describe what your business does: We provide contract engineering services for commercial and private persons.

What inspired you to start this business? I was pretty good at diagnosing systems and figuring out how to make them work correctly. Various people started asking me for assistance, which I did part time, on my own time while I kept my regular job. In 2002 I had fully earned my retirement, and I did retire and started my engineering consulting full time. It has worked well for me. I have three regulars and several part-timers that help me when there’s a lot of work to do.

How has your business embraced innovation? Like anyone in business, we use the smart phones, the latest software and the Internet constantly.

What’s your biggest challenge right now? There’s not enough time in the day.

What’s your biggest opportunity right now? “Engineering a better world.” That’s literally our motto.

What do you want readers to know about your business today? If you have an interesting problem that might need engineering and/or analysis, we stand ready to give you a hand.
