Dayton Mall: MB16 Policy Proved Successful

It has been almost two years since the Dayton Mall took action against teenagers who were causing problems at the mall. Teenagers must be 16 during certain weekend hours or they must be with an adult.

So, has the ban been successful? According to mall officials and police, it has been a great success.

There are signs as you walk into the mall – MB16, meaning visitors must be 16 years old on Fridays and Saturdays from 4 p.m. to close or they must be with an adult.

Those who work in the stores said there is a difference between now and two years ago.

According to mall management, the shopping experience has totally changed thanks to MB16. One mall official said retailers are able to conduct business for the customers and are not being bothered or threatened with anything else.

At first, some wondered how the MB16 policy would be enforced, but the mall said it has not been hard. Miami Township’s police chief said his officers are not needed at the mall for problems like they used to be.

Chief Chris Krug said, “Now if you go to the mall, you see families and sales are up 5 percent and it continues to improve.”

Krug also said the number of trespassing arrests are down at the mall and there are not as many shoplifters.
